Joe Biden slammed for misleading statements about the economy
text_fieldsWashington: US President Joe Biden was criticised by fact-checkers over his speech on economic progress made by his administration.
Fact-checkers from CNN and the House Ways committee said his claims are "false and misleading and lacking critical context". CNN reporter Daniel Dale also noted that some of Biden's claims were "correct".
On Thursday, Biden claimed that his administration has funded 700,000 major constructions all across the country. Dale said the figure 700,000 is wildly inaccurate. "It adds an extra two zeros to the correct figure Biden used in a speech last week and the White House has also used before: 7,000 projects."
The President also claimed that only 3.5 million people had their first dose of Covid vaccination when Donald Trump left office in January 2021. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data, the actual number is around 19 million.
The reporter also criticised Biden's claim that billionaires now pay only 3% of their income. Dale said this claim is incorrect and the White House published a corrected official transcript that says 8% instead.
