JD(S) MP Prajwal asks for 7 days to appear before SIT probing sexual abuse case
text_fieldsBengaluru: Janata Dal (Secular) MP Prajwal Revanna requested on Wednesday a seven-day window for his appearance before the special investigation team looking into the claims of sexual abuse against him.
“As I am not in Bangalore to attend the enquiry, I have communicated to CID [Crime Investigation Department] Bangalore through my advocate,” Revanna said in a social media post. “Truth will prevail soon.”
This occurred as Chief Minister of Karnataka Siddaramaiah wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, requesting that Revanna's diplomatic passport be revoked. On April 26, only hours before the state administration led by Congress declared that it had formed a special investigative team to look into the allegations of sexual abuse, Revanna took a flight from Bengaluru to Germany, Scroll.in reported
“This is to urge you kindly, to move the Ministries of External Affairs and Home Affairs to take swift action to cancel the diplomatic passport of Prajwal Revanna and to take such other steps using diplomatic and police channels of the Government of India as well as International Police agencies to ensure the swift return of the absconding Member of Parliament to face the full force of law,” the chief minister said.
In coalition with the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Janata Dal (Secular) is running for the Karnataka Lok Sabha elections.
In addition to the special investigation team looking at tapes allegedly showing the sexual assault of multiple women, Prajwal Revanna and his father HD Revanna have been charged with sexual harassment against a woman, who worked in their house.
Prajwal Revanna was called by the Karnataka Police on Wednesday to be questioned about the matter.
The complainant in this case claims that HD Revanna would harass her sexually when his wife wasn't home. Additionally, she has charged Prajwal Revanna with inappropriately touching domestic workers who are women.
The complaint was filed not long after many pen drives with recordings purportedly taken by Prajwal Revanna himself of multiple women being sexually assaulted went viral in Hassan, Karnataka, before the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April 26. His party has nominated him again to run for the seat.
The Janata Dal (Secular) suspended Prajwal Revanna on Tuesday and sent him a notice requesting an explanation as to why no further action should be taken against him.
