Kolkata: Trinamul Congress leadership is apparently not happy with Mahua Moitra after she called Goddess Kaali a meat-eating, alcohol-accepting goddess.

The party distanced itself from their federal lawmaker's comments leaving Moitra to her own devices.

Answering back silently to the party's indifference, Mahua Moitra has unfollowed the official Twitter handle of the TMC.

Moitra now follows only TMC supremo and Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.

Moitra made the controversial comments during a Q&A at India Today Conclave East 2022, where she was asked for her reaction to a movie poster depicting Kaali as the Goddess smoking cigarette.

Moitra went on to say that to her Kaali was a meat-eating, alcohol-accepting goddess, adding that in Sikkim people offer whiskey as " prasad" to the Goddes while the act is blasphemy in Uttar Pradesh.

The controversy over Goddess Kaali started after filmmaker Leena Manimekalai shared on social media the poster of her film named after the Goddess.

The poster had a woman dressed up as Kaali smoking cigarette, holding a trident and the LGBTQ+ community's pride flag

Following angry protests against the poster, Indian High Commission in Canada demanded Canadian authorities to withdraw the poster.

The controversy resonated back home in West Bengal where Goddess Kaali is widely worshiped.
