Mumbai: The IPL 2026 playoffs promise a fascinating contest between four teams that reached the knockout stage through very different routes. For the first time in tournament history, the top three teams—Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Gujarat Titans (GT) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)—finished on the same tally of 18 points, with only Net Run Rate separating them.

Gujarat Titans enter the playoffs as arguably the most balanced side. While their batting has relied more on consistency than explosive scoring, the opening pair of Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill has been the most productive in the tournament. Their greater strength, however, lies in a formidable bowling attack led by Kagiso Rabada, Rashid Khan and Mohammed Siraj. GT possess the competition’s best wicket-taking numbers and arrives with momentum after winning six of their last seven matches.

RCB, meanwhile, have combined strong batting performances with home dominance to secure the top position. Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal and Rajat Patidar have provided stability and acceleration throughout the season, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s new-ball brilliance and Krunal Pandya’s all-round contributions have strengthened the side. Their only notable concern remains the lack of a specialist spin option.

The Eliminator presents a clash between two of the season’s most entertaining batting teams. SRH have built their campaign around aggressive strokeplay, recording nine totals above 200 and producing some of the tournament’s highest successful chases. Heinrich Klaasen, Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma have all crossed the 500-run mark. However, their bowling economy remains among the weakest in the playoffs.

Rajasthan Royals, on the other hand, have been driven by the remarkable performances of teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi and pace spearhead Jofra Archer. While both have enjoyed exceptional seasons, the supporting bowling unit has struggled for consistency.

With powerful batting line-ups, elite fast bowlers and contrasting strengths across all four teams, the IPL 2026 playoffs appear finely poised and highly unpredictable.
