Indore civic body workers attack three people for littering
text_fieldsIndore, known as the cleanest city in the country, witnessed a disturbing incident where three men were subjected to severe beatings by municipal workers following a disagreement over a Rs 10,000 fine for littering on the road. The incident, which took place late Sunday night in the central Kotwali area, was captured in a viral video.
Assistant Commissioner of Police V. P. Sharma stated, "The three injured individuals involved in the incident alleged that the municipal staff demanded a Rs 10,000 fine from them, claiming they had littered the road. When they protested, they were brutally assaulted." The injured victims underwent medical examinations.
A case has been registered against four municipal workers and their associates under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including sections 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt.), 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint), 294 (obscene act), and 506 (criminal intimidation).
In response to a counter-complaint lodged by the municipal staff, the injured trio has also been charged with assault and other offenses. The investigation is currently underway, said ACP.
Nikhil Verma, Vice President of the Indore unit of Youth Congress, alleged that the video footage clearly shows municipal workers attacking the three men with sticks, kicking and punching them even after they fell unconscious. Verma expressed discontent with the police, claiming that the corporation employees were charged with a mild offense of assault. He threatened to stage a protest unless section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC is added to the FIR against the responsible civic employees.
