IndiGo flyers trapped in dark, sweltering plane after power failure
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Panic and chaos unfolded aboard an IndiGo flight bound for Delhi after a technical failure left passengers trapped inside a dark, suffocating aircraft with no air conditioning or cabin lights for nearly 25 minutes. The incident occurred on flight 6E 657, which was preparing to depart from Vadodara on Sunday night.
According to official sources, the aircraft’s ground power unit malfunctioned while the plane was stationary on the runway. The failure caused a complete disruption of the electrical supply, shutting down the cabin lighting and air-conditioning systems. Passengers were forced to endure intense heat, darkness and poor ventilation inside the aircraft, triggering visible distress and angry protests from those onboard.
The ordeal reportedly lasted from around 8.50 pm to 9.15 pm. A passenger recorded visuals from inside the aircraft and shared them on social media, where the footage quickly drew attention and criticism over passenger safety and emergency preparedness.
As the cabin turned dark and unbearably hot, several passengers were seen raising alarms and demanding immediate action from airline staff. The situation created an atmosphere of fear and discomfort inside the grounded aircraft.
Officials later stated that airline technicians immediately began repair work after identifying the technical fault in the power unit. Power supply was eventually restored, and the aircraft was cleared for departure. However, the disruption caused a major delay to the service. The flight, originally scheduled to depart at 8.40 pm, finally took off for Delhi around 10 pm after the technical issue was resolved.
