Minister of State for of Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar

Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that India's goals and expectations of accountability, safety, and trust from Twitter remain unchanged. He was responding to the recent takeover of the social media platform by billionaire Elon Musk.

The Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology wished the Tesla CEO the very best. India has been putting several restrictions on Twitter and demanding that all intermediaries comply with a set of rules. The BJP-led government has been demanding that Twitter block content critical of the ruling party.

India is one of the countries with the highest number of Twitter subscribers. The government has accused social media platforms of promoting fake news and anti-India content, reported NDTV. All social media platforms were forced to take responsibility and accountability for the content hosted by them.

The hostile takeover of Twitter by billionaire Elon Musk is likely to lead to several changes in the platform. Musk is known for being a speech absolutist and has already said that he wants even his worst enemy on the platform with the right to share their thoughts.

Musk has also promised to rid the platform of spambots. Some speculate that an edit button will be added and the platform will make more money for the shareholders.

Twitter was launched as a place for breaking news where commoners can share information in real-time. Over time, it has become a source for the public to directly hear from influential politicians and newsmakers.
