Indian soldier imprisoned 24 years in Pak jail; Mother approaches Supreme Court
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Kamala Bhattacharjee, the 81-year-old mother of army officer Sanjit Bhattacharjee, imprisoned in a Pakistan jail for 24 years, approached the Supreme Court demanding action for his release.
In the petition, the mother accused that the government forgot her son and didn't care to approach the International Court of Justice for his release. The man has been imprisoned for 23 years and nine months says the petition.
The court heard the women's plea and stated that there is a need for diplomatic intervention. The court also emphasized the need to collect details of those jailed likewise. The court has sent notices to Home Affairs and External Affairs ministries.
In 1997, Sanjit Bhattacharjee went missing while he was on patrolling duty at Rann of Kutch in Gujarat. Though the army initially declared him dead, he was later found to be in Kot Lakhpat jail in Pakistan.
