Indian Railways to develop 'super app'; a unified app
text_fieldsNew Delhi: The Indian Railways is developing a “super app” that could provide the combined functions of various individual apps. The new app is intended to provide services like booking tickets, checking PNR status, tracking the progress of a train, etc., in short, it a unified app, The Economic Times reported.
The new app would provide the combined services offered by apps like UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System), Rail Madad, and the National Train Enquiry System.
The app is being developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), and for the development and operation for three years, Indian Railways will have to spend Rs 90 crores. CRIS is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Railways.
A senior official in Railways told the Financial Times that the app will improve user experience by reducing the number of downloads needed for a complete bouquet of railway services. Indian Railways’ apps needed an overhaul, which will be done on the basis of user feedback, the official added.
The proposed app could also offer services through other IRCTC apps, such as flight ticket booking, in-train food delivery, and ticket purchase management, the report states. The new app is expected to allow users to use a single app for all the services related to Indian Railways instead of downloading multiple apps.
