Indian Navy successfully test-fires medium-range surface-to-air missile

New Delhi: The Indian Navy's latest indigenous guided missile destroyer, INS Surat, has successfully test-fired a medium-range surface-to-air missile, marking a significant milestone in enhancing the country's maritime defence capabilities. The missile, with a range of approximately 70 km, was launched as part of a precision cooperative engagement against a sea-skimming target.
In a statement, the Navy said, “The Indian Navy's latest indigenous guided missile destroyer INS Surat has successfully carried out a precision cooperative engagement of a sea-skimming target, marking a significant milestone in strengthening the Navy's defence capabilities.”
The successful test demonstrates India's advancing capabilities in indigenous warship design, development, and operational deployment. It also reflects the nation’s growing emphasis on self-reliance in the defence sector. “This achievement demonstrates India's growing prowess in indigenous warship design, development, and operations, and underscores the nation's commitment to self-reliance in defence manufacturing,” the statement added.
The Navy further noted that this milestone stands as a testament to its unwavering commitment to safeguarding India’s maritime interests and to the broader vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).
