India will soon be among top 10 nations in biotech: PM Modi
text_fieldsNew Delhi: India's 'bio-economy' has grown eight times in the last eight years, PM Modi said on Thursday, inaugurating the Biotech Startup Expo here.
His government, he said, believed in strengthening every sector rather than focusing a few sector as previous governments had done, The Indian Express reported.
India is not far from getting into the club of top 10 countries in the global ecosystem of biotech as it has now reached USD 80 billion from USD 10 billion, according to him.
The biotech sector is giving new momentum to the country's development, he said, adding that the Biotech Startup Expo 2022 will strengthen the 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' movement in the sector.
Further enumerating achievements of last 8 years, he said the country's number of startups has spiked over 70,000 with his government creating the culture of entrepreneurship.
These 70,000 startups came into being in 60 different industries with exports from sectors hitting records, he said.
