India welcomes ‘highly anticipated’ US-Russia summit in Alaska

New Delhi: India’s Ministry of External Affairs on Saturday welcomed President Donald Trump’s announcement of his upcoming meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday.
Putin's first trip to the United States comes nearly ten years after his 2015 meeting with former President Barack Obama, according to NDTV.
Trump’s announcement suggests that the talks could be aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, which left Russia’s relations with the US and Europe upended.
The Ministry of External Affairs stated that ‘India welcomes the understanding reached between the United States and the Russian Federation for a meeting in Alaska on 15th August 2025’, adding ‘This meeting holds the promise of bringing to an end the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and opening up the prospects for peace. As Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said on several occasions, "This is not an era of war"’
Taking to his social media platform Truth Social, President Trump said that the highly the ‘anticipated meeting’ will ‘take place next Friday, August 15, 2025, in the Great State of Alaska. Further details to follow. Thank you for your attention to this matter!’
Russia in a statement said that both leaders would ‘focus on discussing options for achieving a long-term peaceful resolution to the Ukrainian crisis’ while calling the process ‘challenging’ in which it would engage in ‘actively and energetically’.
Meanwhile, Trump said in White House that there would be talks on ‘some swapping of territories to the betterment of both’, to which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky responded that the country would not give its land to ‘occupiers’.
In a message on Telegram, Zelensky said: ‘No one will and no one can deviate from it. Ukrainians will not give their land to the occupier.’
