India to scrap physical boarding passes for international travellers
text_fieldsNew Delhi: International travellers departing from India will no longer be required to carry physical boarding passes or have them stamped by immigration authorities from September 1, according to a new directive by the Bureau of Immigration.
Until now, passengers travelling abroad were required to present a physical boarding pass at the airport, which immigration officials would stamp after completing immigration procedures. However, the Bureau of Immigration found that the practice often caused inconvenience to passengers and that errors in stamping could sometimes make boarding passes difficult to scan or read.
Under the new system, passengers will be able to use e-boarding passes at immigration counters instead of physical copies. Those carrying physical boarding passes may still present them, but immigration officials will no longer stamp them.
Airport authorities and other concerned departments have been instructed to implement the new procedure at all international airports across the country from September 1.
