India registers 7,579 new Covid-19 cases, lowest in 543 days

New Delhi: India logged 7,579 new coronavirus infections on Tuesday, taking the country's total tally of COVID-19 cases to 3,45,26,480, the lowest in 543 days, according to the Union Health Ministry data. The figure is the lowest reported since May last year.
Top five states which have registered maximum Covid-19 cases are Kerala with 3,698 cases, followed by Tamil Nadu with 750 cases, West Bengal with 615 cases, Mizoram with 423 cases, and Assam with 192 cases.
74.91% of the new Covid-19 cases are reported from these five states, with Kerala alone responsible for 48.79% of the new cases.
The country recorded 236 new deaths in the last 24 hours, taking total fatalities since the beginning of the pandemic to 4,66,147.
India's recovery rate now stands at 98.32%. A total of 12,202 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, which brings the total recoveries to 3,39,46,749 across the country.
India's active caseload stands at 1,13,584. In the last 24 hours, active cases have declined by 4,859.
The daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.79 per cent. It has been less than two per cent for last 50 days. The weekly positivity rate was also recorded at 0.93 per cent. It has been below two per cent for the last 60 days, according to the ministry.
A total of 9,64,980 samples were tested for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.
India has administered a total of 71,92,154 doses in the last 24 hours.
India has so far administered more than 117.63 crore doses of the Covid-19 vaccine across the country. Around 82% of the eligible population have received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, and nearly 43% are fully vaccinated, according to data from the Union Health Ministry. The government has been taking many initiatives to speed up the ongoing nationwide vaccination drive.
It has launched a month-long 'Har Ghar Dastak' campaign for house-to-house Covid-19 vaccination of those who are yet to take a dose and for people whose second dose is overdue. More than 12 crore beneficiaries are still overdue for their second dose after the expiry of the prescribed interval between the two doses.
