As many as 10,126 fresh COVID-19 cases were reported in the country in the last 24 hours, the lowest single-day rise in over 8 months, the Union Health ministry said on Tuesday.

With today's numbers, India's total tally of COVID-19 cases climbed to 3,43,77,113, while active caseload reached 1,40,638, which is the lowest in 263 days. The active cases account for less than 1% of total cases, currently at 0.41%, lowest since March 2020.

The death toll reached 4,61,389 with 332 fresh fatalities in the same time span.

The daily rise in new coronavirus infections has been below 20,000 for 32 straight days and less than 50,000 daily new cases have been reported for 135 consecutive days now.

The top five states which have registered maximum cases are Kerala with 5,404 cases, followed by Tamil Nadu with 841 cases, Mizoram with 730 cases, Maharashtra with 693 cases and West Bengal with 603 cases.

Atleast 81.68 per cent of the new cases are reported from these five states, with Kerala alone responsible for 53.37 per cent of the new cases.

Maximum casualties were reported in Kerala (262), followed by Maharashtra with 15 daily deaths.

Meanwhile, India's homegrown Covaxin, which got the WHO approval last week, has been recognised by the United Kingdom. No quarantine is required for fully vaccinated travellers in Britain as part of new rules effective from November 22.

The country has given 109 crore doses of vaccines since the start of the pandemic. However, in the last few weeks, the pace of vaccination has slowed down.
