New Delhi: Indian army and Chinese troops are engaged in a tense standoff as the latter transgressed across the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh last week, NDTV reported. The incident comes a month after reports of another incursion by China in Uttarakhand.

A source told NDTV that there is a difference in perception of the LAC in the mentioned area. Both India and China undertake patrolling services up to the line of perception, it said.

NDTV reported that physical engagement between the two troops likely went on from a few hours before both sides disengaged. No damage was reported to Indian defences in the sector.

The area was prone to several Chinese incursions in the past. On August 30, nearly a hundred Chinese soldiers transgressed 5km across LAC in the Barahoti region, North of the Nanda Devi biosphere reserve but returned after a few hours from the area guarded by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).

According to PTI, minor transgressions have been happening in Barahoti because of both sides' differing perceptions about LAC. But the strength of the Chinese troop that transgressed on August 30 surprised Indian Officials.

China had significantly erected infrastructure along the LAC in the sector. But India has been keeping a strict vigil along the nearly 3,500km LAC after the eastern Ladakh standoff.

The border conflicts between India and China militaries started on May 5 in eastern Ladakh after a violent clash in the Pangong lake area. Both sides kept their presence by rushing tens of thousands of soldiers and heavy weaponry. After a series of military and diplomatic talks, disengagement was completed by the two sides in the Gogra area last month. Both sides have deployed around 50,000 to 60,000 troops along the LAC in the sensitive sector.
