Communal clashes in Haryana: Imam among 5 dead, situation remains tense
text_fieldsGurugram: In a series of events, Gurugram and Nuh witnessed violent clashes and targeted attacks that left several dead and many injured. The incident started during a religious procession in Haryana's Nuh, adjoining Gurugram, where Hindu and Muslim groups engaged in a confrontation, resulting in four deaths, including two Home Guards, and over 30 people injured.
The situation escalated further when a mob attacked the Anjuman Jama Masjid in Gurugram's Sector 57 just past midnight. The mosque was set on fire, leading to the tragic death of one person and injuries to several others. The imam was among the victims, as he was shot during the attack.
As the situation continued to spiral out of control, suspicion arose surrounding the attack on the recently established Cyber Police Station in Nuh. The attackers seemingly used the chaos as an opportunity to wipe criminal records and destroy crucial evidence related to multiple cases of rampant cyber fraud in the area.
Union Minister and Gurugram MP Rao Inderjit Singh confirmed the attack on the mosque and assured that 20 paramilitary companies were sent to restore order. The police promptly filed a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the incident and conducted raids that led to the arrest of several accused individuals.
To prevent further escalation of violence and to ensure the safety of religious places, security measures around these establishments were strengthened. Both the police and administration actively engaged with prominent community members to maintain peace and stability.
In the aftermath of these appalling incidents, internet services were temporarily suspended in Sohna, Pataudi, and Manesar areas to prevent the spread of misinformation and curb any potential provocation.
While the situation remains tense, authorities are determined to bring those responsible for the violence to justice and restore calm in the region. Investigations into the mosque attack and the assault on the Cyber Police Station are ongoing, and additional measures to address communal tensions and curb cyber fraud are likely to be implemented.
