New Delhi: A start-up based in IIT Delhi has introduced the "world's smallest" wearable air purifier and claimed that it is as effective as an N95 mask, PTI reported.

The start-up, Nanoclean Global, claimed that their product Naso95 is an N95-grade nasal filter. The purifier stays at the nasal orifice and restricts bacteria, viruses, pollen as well as air pollution.

The company said that the product, available in three different sizes, is more effective than a poorly fitted face mask. It has been tested and certified by national and international laboratories for the safety and efficiency it offers. The company's statement says that the product is more effective for children claiming that they are more vulnerable to airborne infections.

Secretary to Technology Development Board (TDB) Rajesh Kumar Pathak said that the product would immensely benefit society, and he recommended it to all age groups.

He said that TDB, a statutory body of the Department of Science and Technology, would like to support the start-up product to reach the public.

Meanwhile, Former AIIMS Director M C Mishra opined that air pollution is worse than viruses. While lung cancer remains the major among cancers, the air purifier Naso95 could be an effective answer for respiratory illness in metros.

He added that the product that only covers the nasal in is effective at laces where one as to remove masks for identification purposes such as airports and security checks.
