IIT Hyderabad student bags record-breaking Rs 2.5 crore job offer
text_fieldsHyderabad: In a historic milestone for the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IIT-H), a final-year student has secured a job package worth Rs 2.5 crore per annum during the ongoing campus placements.
Edward Nathan Varghese, a 21-year-old B.Tech student in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, received the offer from Optiver, a Netherlands-based trading firm. This stands as the highest salary package offered in the institute's history since its inception.
Varghese had previously completed a two-month internship with Optiver. Impressed by his performance, the firm extended a pre-placement offer, which he is set to join officially in July this year.
The offer surpasses the institute’s previous record of approximately Rs 1 crore, set in 2017. Officials at IIT Hyderabad also confirmed that another student from the Computer Science department has received a substantial offer of Rs 1.1 crore per annum during this placement season.
Born in Hyderabad, Varghese completed his schooling from grade 7 through intermediate in Bengaluru. His academic track record is distinguished; he secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 558 in JEE Advanced in 2022 to gain admission to IIT-H.
Beyond his engineering coursework, Varghese achieved a 99.96 percentile score in the Common Admission Test (CAT) last November. His credentials also include a scholarship from the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in 2021 and a fellowship under the prestigious Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc).
