Hyderabad: A six-month-old girl snatched from a footpath near Narayana Malla Reddy Hospital in the early hours of May 4 has been rescued by Suraram police within 48 hours, with five suspects in custody.

The arrested include Sridevi (35), who masterminded the plot after noticing her sister-in-law's distress over childlessness; Karthik alias Sonu (18); Johnson (24); and two 17-year-old juveniles.

On May 3, the group scouted the hospital area and spotted a woman asleep on the footpath with her four daughters. They returned that night, grabbed the baby, and fled on a motorcycle while the family slept.

The mother, Navaneetha, alerted police upon waking. Officers registered a case, formed four special teams, and reviewed CCTV footage to track the suspects to Royal Hyatt Functional Hall in Rajendranagar.
