Hyderabad groups hold candlelight gathering for Sonam Wangchuk
text_fieldsHyderabad: Civil society groups in Hyderabad will hold a candlelight vigil for activist Sonam Wangchuk on Thursday, July 16, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at Necklace Road, organisers said.
The vigil at the 130 foot Ambedkar Statue is being staged in solidarity with students affected by the NEET UG paper leak and will press demands including protection of student rights, scrapping the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the sacking of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Wangchuk, who has been fasting for 19 days at Jantar Mantar in Delhi with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), has rejected calls to end his hunger strike unless the government responds. He told supporters that breaking the fast without any official accountability would send the wrong message and urged people to strengthen the CJP’s proposed Parliament march on July 20, urging student participation.
Officials and supporters say medical checks so far have not indicated immediate danger to his health.
