‘Hospitality of Indians is just unmatched’: Australian traveller recounts experience
text_fieldsNew Delhi: An Australian traveller has called India’s hospitality ‘unmatched like any other in the world’ after being moved by the love he received in the country, The Indian Express reported.
Duncan McNaught, solo backpacker, posted an emotional video on Instgram recounting how a man he met a few days earlier made him feel at home.
‘I met Gaurav three days ago. Three days ago. He took me and fed me. I went to a wedding function with their family. He took me to the Golden Temple. Now he’s got me a bus to Jaipur’, McNaught said.
The video features glimpses from his travel including sharing meals with locals, attending a wedding, and visiting Golden Temple in Amritsar.
Overwhelmed by the generosity of the stranger, he said ‘The hospitality of Indians is just unmatched like any other in the world. Indian hospitality is something like no other. Wow, this is insane. Thank you, India.’
Many online responded to the video with some reflecting on India’s philosophy of “Atithi Devo Bhava” meaning ‘‘a guest is equivalent to God’ treating a guest as God.
Another user testified the story saying that ‘I agree 110%. I went there recently and it was amazing especially the people.’
However, a third user warned that ‘Everything has a good side and a bad side… Glad you have got to see the good side of our Nation’.
Some others pointed out that philosophy of India sees the world as a big family, adding that ‘Guests are God to us’.
