Union Minister Ramdas Athawale has criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray for not attending the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, alleging that their absence is an insult to Hindus.

Athawale, a prominent Dalit leader from Maharashtra and a BJP ally, called on Hindu voters to boycott both leaders.

Speaking to PTI Videos, Athawale stated that Thackeray often speaks about Hindutva, yet failed to participate in the Maha Kumbh, one of the most significant Hindu religious gatherings.

"Thackeray and the Gandhi family have insulted Hindutva by skipping the Maha Kumbh. Being Hindu and not attending this sacred event is disrespectful to the community, and Hindus should boycott them," he said.

The Union Minister of State for Social Justice further emphasised that both leaders should have considered the sentiments of Hindu devotees and made an appearance at the event.

Athawale suggested that Hindu voters have already sent a strong message to these leaders in the recent Maharashtra Assembly elections of November 2024.

"They always seek Hindu votes, yet they ignored Maha Kumbh. Hindu voters must take note of this and act accordingly," he added.

The 45-day Maha Kumbh Mela, held at Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, will conclude on Mahashivratri, marking the end of the grand religious gathering.
