Gurgaon: In an unsettling incident, a portion of a Mazar (shrine) located in Gurgaon's Sector 37 area, a place where believers of all faiths visit, was found ablaze by unidentified individuals during the early hours of Sunday, according to local authorities.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime), Varun Dahiya, confirmed that miscreants ignited the fire outside the central structure of the place of worship, which also contained images of Hindu deities. The offerings placed within the shrine were consumed by the flames.

This incident has occurred amidst heightened tensions in the region, with Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code already in effect due to escalating communal clashes stemming from the nearby Nuh district of Haryana.

The unfortunate incident follows the recent burning of a mosque in Gurgaon, resulting in the tragic death of the naib imam, allegedly at the hands of a group of 70-80 individuals.

An FIR was filed based on the complaint lodged by Ghasite Ram, the priest responsible for the religious establishment situated in Khandsa village's main market—a place of worship that welcomes followers of all faiths.

Ram conveyed in his complaint that the fire was noticed around 1:30 am on August 6th, after he had completed the evening puja and departed. The fire was ultimately contained with the assistance of local residents and passers-by.
