New Delhi: In response to heavy rainfall in various parts of the region, the Northern Railways has been compelled to cancel approximately 17 trains and divert around 12 others.

The downpour has resulted in waterlogging at four locations, leading to the suspension of traffic in those areas. The affected sections include Noganwan (Ambala)-New Morinda, Nangal Dam-Anandpur Sahib, and Kiratpur Sahib-Bharatgarh, according to a statement issued by a Northern Railways spokesperson.

To ensure the safe operation of trains in the Delhi area amidst relentless rainfall, authorities are closely monitoring the situation.

At the Delhi-Sabzi Mandi area and the station's trainable area, eight pumps are actively working to drain water from the tracks. As of now, train services in the Delhi region remain unaffected. CPRO Northern Railway Deepak Kumar stated, "Strict watch is being kept to run trains from the Delhi area safely because of non-stop heavy rains. Trains running in the Delhi area are still normal."

Among the cancelled trains are Firozpur Cantt Express, Amritsar Super Fast Express, Chandigarh Intercity Express, and Chandigarh to Amritsar Junction Express. Several trains have been diverted, including Mumbai Central to Amritsar Express, Amritsar Express, and Daulatpur Chowk Express.

Delhi, in particular, has experienced significant rainfall in the past 24 hours, recording 153 mm of rain ending at 8:30 am on Sunday. This constitutes the highest single-day rainfall for July since 1982, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

As the region continues to grapple with heavy rainfall, the Northern Railways is actively monitoring the situation and taking necessary measures to ensure the safety and smooth operation of train services. Passengers are advised to stay updated with the latest information regarding train schedules and any changes due to the prevailing weather conditions.
