Heavy BJP machinery made Delhi civic body polls tough, says Kejriwal

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said "heavy BJP machinery" was deployed during the civic poll election campaign and it made things tough. He added that it is the toughest election contested by the Aam Aadmi Party.

"This election was very very tough. A few people say it was an easy election, but it was not. The way they conspired against us and the way they used state machinery against us, it was the toughest elections we ever contested," said the leader.

The AAP chief also accused the BJP of pressuring the media to spread propaganda. He was referring to the videos of jailed minister Satyender Jain. "Moreover, the way they pressured the media, they scolded the media and twisted its arm, they ran a misinformation campaign against us. There was a new fake video every morning at 9 o'clock."

He was speaking to newly elected councillors and said the party does positive politics. "We do positive politics and talk about our work. The BJP through fake videos and letters of a jailed con man did not allow us to discuss our work narrative."

The civic polls were high stakes for AAP in which the party won 134 out of the 250 wards. The BJP won 104 seats.

The BJP today said the party will play the role of a strong opposition in the MCD and the next Mayor will be from the AAP as it got a majority. Delhi BJP President Adesh Gupta claimed the party will not allow any corruption and act as a "watchdog". "Delhi should be clean and MCD should do good work, it will be our priority." Earlier, the BJP had suggested that the Mayor's election is still an open game.
