Hasin Jahan and daughter booked for attempt to murder after land dispute in Bengal

Kolkata: Hasin Jahan, the estranged wife of Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami, and her daughter Arshi Jahan have been booked for attempt to murder, assault, and criminal conspiracy following a complaint filed by a neighbour over a land dispute in West Bengal’s Birbhum district.
The case relates to an incident that took place on 11 July in Ward Number 5 of Suri town. A video of the altercation surfaced online on 16 July and has since gone viral on social media platform X.
According to the police, the dispute began when Hasin Jahan reportedly started construction on a plot of land claimed to be registered in her daughter Arshi’s name. Neighbour Dalia Khatun objected to the work, alleging the land was under dispute. The situation escalated into a violent confrontation, during which Dalia claimed she was assaulted by Hasin and Arshi while trying to intervene.
Based on her complaint, the police registered an FIR under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, including Section 109 (attempt to murder), Section 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), Section 117(2) (abetment), Section 126(2) (wrongful restraint), Section 351(3) (criminal intimidation), and Section 3(5) (common intention).
The police have confirmed that an investigation is ongoing, though no arrests have been made so far.
Hasin Jahan has remained in the public eye since her 2018 split from Mohammed Shami, accusing the cricketer of domestic abuse and infidelity. Their ongoing legal battles have frequently drawn media attention.
Recently, the Calcutta High Court ordered Shami to pay Rs 1.5 lakh per month as interim maintenance to Hasin Jahan and an additional Rs 2.5 lakh for their daughter’s care and expenses. The ruling came in response to an appeal filed by Jahan, who had challenged a previous order by an Alipore Sessions Judge directing Shami to pay a total of Rs 1.3 lakh per month.
In her appeal, Jahan had argued that the relief granted was inadequate, citing her limited monthly income of Rs 16,000 and personal expenses reportedly amounting to Rs 6 lakh.
