Bengaluru: Karnataka state government on Tuesday said that they intend to resume the Vidyagama program that was introduced during the quarantine to help in educating students without plentiful access to internet and gadgets.

The scheme was introduced in August 2020. However, it shut down due to a surge in cases among students in October. However, since there has been a steady decline in new cases, the state government sees it fit to resume the scheme.

S Suresh Kumar, the Primary and Secondary Education Minister stated that it will be restarted as a halfway step before the reopening of schools. The students will be divided in groups of 15-20, wearing masks and maintain distance. They will be allowed to attend 45 minute classes on campus for half a day.

Kumar has stressed that the resumption of Vidgyagama is not equivalent to the reopening of schools.

The minister also stated that it was vital that there is a continuum in the education of the students.
