Ahmedabad: A video from a Navratri celebration in Ahmedabad has sparked an online debate after a woman dressed in black with a white scarf and demonic makeup danced during the festivities. Many viewers argued that her outfit demeaned Christianity and Islam.

The footage shows the woman performing garba alongside others. While participants were dressed in various costumes, her attire drew attention for its resemblance to the burqa and the habit worn by Christian nuns.

Several viewers noted that she appeared to be dressed as Valek, a Goetic demon popularly known as the demon nun from The Conjuring horror movie franchise. One social media user commented, “Not a Muslim woman, this is the witch from The Nun movie.”

The video has elicited mixed reactions, ranging from amusement to criticism. Some users even demanded action, with one writing, “Whoever is involved in this incident, please arrest them because this is India, respect all religions…”

Navratri, a nine-day festival, honours nine different forms of Goddess Durga, also known as Mother Divine. In some parts of India, the tenth day is celebrated as Vijayadashami.
