Bharuch: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) named jailed MLA Chaitar Vasava as its candidate for Gujarat's Bharuch Lok Sabha, Asian News International reported.

The party started its election campaign for the major polls on Sunday at Baruch with a public rally.

AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal addressed the rally there and appealed to the people to vote for Chaitar Vasava, the MLA of the Dediapada constituency, to victory in the LS polls. He said that Vasava is in jail at present, but he will be the candidate for the Bharuch seat. While no other party has confirmed their candidates for the seat, AAP did, he said.

Chetar Vasava, who has been in jail for the past two months, was sent to judicial custody by a local court in Dediapada in the Narmada district on December 18. This was after a three-day police remand in a case of alleged extortion and assault of forest officials.

The Delhi Chief Minister said that if the jailed MLA is not released, he will contest the election from the jail itself, and people will go door to door carrying the candidate's photo to seek votes.

Earlier, Kejriwal posted on X, "Chaitra Vasava of the Aam Aadmi Party is a very popular tribal leader. He and his wife have been jailed for several days by the BJP Gujarat government in a fake case. Today I and Bhagwant Mann ji are going to Gujarat. We will meet people in his area and tomorrow we will go to meet him in jail."

In the last LS polls, BJP won all the 26 seats in Gujarat.
