Government convenes all-party meet today amid West Asia crisis

New Delhi: The government will brief political leaders at an all-party meeting on Wednesday evening about the escalating West Asia crisis and its economic-security fallout for India.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will chair the 5 pm session in the Parliament complex, with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar detailing recent developments and India's diplomatic response.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier termed the situation an "unprecedented crisis" with long-term implications during statements in both Houses of Parliament.
Now in its fourth week, the conflict has snarled maritime trade via the Strait of Hormuz, spiking global energy prices, disrupting supply chains, and fueling inflation fears—prompting wider political consultations.
Opposition parties like Congress have demanded a full parliamentary debate. Rajya Sabha LoP Mallikarjun Kharge slammed the briefing format as insufficient for the crisis's scale. Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi called India's foreign policy "compromised" by personal motives over national interest; he welcomes the meet but can't attend due to a commitment in Kerala.
The meeting follows Tuesday's high-level security review by Rajnath Singh with CDS Gen Anil Chauhan, the three service chiefs, and DRDO chief Dr Samir Kamat.
As geopolitical strains intensify with global ripple effects, the session aims to build consensus on India's strategy.
