Gang fight at Jamia Islamia; one student shot inside hospital
text_fieldsNew Delhi: A student of Jamia Millia Islamia University was shot inside the Holy Family Hospital in southeast Delhi's Jamia Nagar Thursday evening.
The firing followed a fight that had broken out between two student groups inside the library of the university.
One student identified as 26-year-old Noman Chaudhary from Uttar Pradesh's Meerut sustained heady injury in the fight.
He was admitted to the Holy Family Hospital for treatment.
Afterwards a friend of Chaudhary's identified as student Nauman Ali went to see him at the hospital.
It was then a group led by Zalal from Haryana's Mewat opened fire on Ali outside the emergency ward of the hospital, according to India today.
Ali sustained superficial injuries to the scalp, requiring support at the AIIMS Trauma Centre.
Police are probing the incident alongside legal action being initiated at the Jamia Nagar and New Friends Colony police stations.
Only the other day, Jamia Milia Islamia University (JMI) banned its students and teachers from assembling in and around the campus following the imposition of section 144 across Okhla area.
The warning was issued amid the tensions following NIA raids on the Popular Front of India offices and activists.The firing followed a fight that had broken out between two student groups inside the library of the university.
