text_fieldsBengaluru: The Bengaluru police arrested a gang of six people, including two women, after a video of a 22-year-old woman being sexually assaulted began to circulate on social media. According to the Police, the accused are believed to be from Bangladesh.
Police said that taking into account of the video content and statements of the accused, the various provisions of laws related to rape and assault have been charged on them. The footage itself says the brutality the victim had gone through.
Meanwhile, the police shot in the leg of the two accused who tried to escape when they were brought to the scene as part of the investigation. The injured were hospitalised. The incident reportedly took place in Bengaluru almost six days ago.
"Due to financial differences, the culprits brutalised the victim who is also said to be a Bangladeshi, brought to India for human trafficking," the statement added. The Bengaluru police further added that the woman who is currently in another state will be brought back and her statement will be recorded before a magistrate.
The Assam police had taken to Twitter and called on for more information after the video surfaced on social media, assuming that the survivor was from that part of the country.
