Tensions flared once again in Sandeshkhali island, West Bengal, as supporters of the BJP reportedly assaulted a member of the Trinamool Congress during a demonstration.

The victim, Tatan Gayen, an associate of Trinamool MLA Sukumar Mahata, was attacked in close proximity to the local police station, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.

The BJP organized a protest on the island, alleging that the Trinamool Congress government has been unfairly implicating BJP supporters in fabricated legal cases. This latest episode adds to the ongoing turmoil in the region, which gained national attention following accusations of land grabbing, extortion, and sexual harassment against local Trinamool leaders, particularly Sheikh Shahjahan.

Shahjahan, previously associated with Trinamool, is currently in custody of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with an assault on Enforcement Directorate officials. However, recent developments have introduced complexities to the situation, including a viral video implicating a local BJP leader, Gangadhar Koyal, in orchestrating false rape complaints. The authenticity of the video remains disputed, with the BJP refuting claims of manipulation.

Furthermore, a woman has come forward alleging that individuals linked to the BJP coerced her into signing a blank document, which was later used to fabricate a rape accusation against her.

These events have triggered a political showdown, with the Trinamool accusing the BJP of spreading misinformation to tarnish its reputation for political advantage. Meanwhile, BJP supporters have protested outside the local police station, demanding action against Trinamool leaders they accuse of disseminating false content.

In response to allegations of paying women to make false accusations, a BJP supporter vehemently denied the claims, emphasizing the grassroots support for their cause. Another protester criticized individuals attempting to discredit legitimate grievances, calling for their arrest.

Trinamool MLA Sukumar Mahata condemned the attack on his aide, attributing it to instigation by political adversaries. Meanwhile, local BJP leader Sajal Ghosh highlighted the historical absence of law enforcement in Sandeshkhali, pointing to past instances of violence against BJP members.
