Bengaluru: The Bengaluru city police arrested a gang of four women after they were allegedly caught stealing premium silk sarees from a shop in J P Nagar on August 25, The Indian Express reported.

The gang reportedly stole sarees from various shops in the city with the police seizing 38 sarees worth Rs 17.5 lakh.

The women, identified as Janaki, Ponnuru Valli, Medha Rajani, and Venkateshwaramma alongside two other women who were on the run, used to sell stolen sarees at a relatively lower price, according to the police.

It is reported citing an officer that six women wearing sarees walked in a silk store in JP Nagar.

Posing as customers, four of them kept the storekeeper busy by browsing sarees while others made off with eight sarees on the table.

The storekeeper smelt the rat after two women left the place. The other women had already stuffed more than 10 sarees under their dresses.

As they got up to leave the store, the storekeeper had them checked, revealing the stolen sarees.

Taking them into custody, police probed and revealed that the gang had stolen sarees from other shop as well.

A Bengaluru court sent the gang members into judicial custody.
