New Delhi: A court in Rajasthan has sentenced four people to 7 years in prison for killing a farmer for allegedly smuggling cattle in 2018.

Rakbar Khan and his friend Aslam were taking his cow home when they were attacked by the four men.

While his friend managed to escape, Rakbar Khan was beaten with stones and sticks.

The court found Dharmendra Yadav, Paramjeet, Vijay Kumar and Naresh Kumar guilty of culpable homicide and wrongful restraint.

The court acquitted one accused Nawal Kishore over ‘insufficient evidence against him’.

Rakbar Khan had been taken to hospital by the police which led to a controversy over delay of about three hours in giving him care.

By the time he was taken to the hospital the 31-year-old died.

Rather than rushing him to hospital, police, according to NDTV, first arranged the transport of his cows to a shelter and then gave him a wash to ‘clean the mud’ off him. They had allegedly taken a tea and snack break.

A photograph of Rakbar Khan sitting in the police car, circulated by Naval Kishore, raised questions about police inaction.

Naval Kishore reportedly said that Rakbar was alright before he was taken to the police station.

Alongside, Maya, a woman witness, told news outlet NDTV that police beat up the man in the vehicle.

The delay in taking Rakbar to the hospital caused an outcry which led the government to initiate a judicial probe.
