Former Pubjab CM Amarinder Singh will merge his party with BJP today
text_fieldsChandigarh: Former Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh will merge his party the Punjab Lok Congress (PLC) with the BJP on Monday.
Singh formed PLC after quitting the Congress as chief minister in September last year and subsequently he was replaced by Charanjit Singh Channi to become the chief minister, according to India Today.
Singh and seven former MLAs alongside a MP will formally become part of the BJP in Delhi in the presence of BJP national president J P Nadda.
The 80-year-old leader met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on September 12 ahead of the merger with the BJP.
Singh said at the time that they had a very productive discussion on issues including national security, increasing cases of narco-terrorism in Punjab and roadmap for the state's holistic development.
Punjab BJP leader Harjit Singh Grewal earlier hinted at Singh's interest in joining the BJP before Sigh left for London to undergo spinal surgery.
The Congress found itself corned to 18 seats in the last assembly polls in February after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won 92 seats in 117-member assembly with Channi losing both the seats he contested.
Captain Amarinder Singh's PLC nevertheless forming alliance with the BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyuk) couldn't win a single seat as Singh himself losing his home turf Patiala Urban.
