Five-year-old girl dies of dengue after family's 3hr hospital ordeal in UP
text_fieldsFirozabad: A five-year-old girl died of dengue in front of her parents in Uttar Pradesh's Firozabad after they rushed from pillar to post for almost three hours to get her admitted to a hospital, reports NDTV.
The NDTV team reporting on the rise of dengue fever in Firozabad is said to have witnessed the unfortunate episode while at the hospital.
As per the report, Sawanya Gupta was taken to the hospital at 8 a.m. but did not receive treatment until approximately noon. She was declared dead shortly after admission.
The girl's brother told NDTV that his sister would have been safe if they had received medical attention on time. He said that hospital authorities ignored their requests and delayed her treatment despite a raised body temperature.
According to another relative, the doctors cared only about money and did not bother to do anything to save the child.
Meanwhile, the Yogi Adityanath government has been criticised for how it handled the state's dengue outbreak. Mayawati, the leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party, stated last week that many patients were dying in government hospitals due to a lack of suitable facilities.
"In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic in UP, the outbreak of dengue and other mysterious fever has engulfed almost the entire state at a very fast pace. Due to lack of proper arrangements in government hospitals, many patients are dying which is a matter of concern," she tweeted.
Firozabad, which is about 300 km from state capital Lucknow, has been battling an outbreak of dengue and deadly viral fever for the past two weeks, leaving over 60 people dead. More than 16 deaths have been reported in the district in the last 48 hours.
