FIR registered against Union Minister, his son in Lakhimpur Kheri violence
text_fieldsLucknow: Uttar Pradesh Police have registered an FIR against Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra and his son Ashish in connection with the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri during which at least eight people were killed on Sunday. Several other people have also been named in the FIR.
The Lakhimpur Kheri incident took place yesterday, when the farmers' protest in Uttar Pradesh district took a violent turn when an unidentified person open fired killing six people, 15 were injured on Sunday, October 3.
Some farmers were also run over by vehicles killing and injuring many more. So far, around 6 to 8 people have been reported dead, as per media reports.
Farmers on site have been claiming the involvement of Union Minister Ajay Mishra's son in the open fire but the minister has denied all the allegations.
He defended that his son wasn't present at the spot and there were miscreants who attacked workers with sticks and swords.
"Had my son been there, he wouldn't have come out alive. My son was present at the venue of the (Deputy Chief Minister's) event... all through, I was accompanying the deputy chief minister," Mr Mishra, the junior Home Minister, was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
Meanwhile, mobile internet services were suspended in parts of the violence-hit district, where restrictions under CrPC section 144, which prohibits assembly of four or more people, has also been imposed, according to officials.
The UP Police took to Twitter early on Monday to describe the incident as "unfortunate" and said eight casualties have been reported till now as per the district administration.
