FIR filed against Union Minister for claiming Ganesh idol 'arrested' in Karnataka
text_fieldsBengaluru: Police in Karnataka on Wednesday filed First Information Report against Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje for her ‘provocative statements’ and spreading false information on social media, India Today reported.
The minister faces charges over posting photos on social media accusing the Mandya Police of 'arresting' a Lord Ganesh idol alongside falsely saying there were clashes in the Nagamangala town of Mandya.
The minister reportedly claimed that during the procession stones and sandals had been hurled at the idol.
It is reported citing the police case that the photos that Karandlaje posted was not related to the incident.
An FIR was filed against Leader of Opposition R Ashok for sharing on X the videos that falsely claimed that pro-Pakistan slogans were raised during the violence in Nagamangala.
It is reported that clashes broke out on the night of September 11 during a Ganpati procession in Mandya’s Nagamangala, with a group setting shops on fire causing police to clamp restrictive orders.
In March this year, Shobha Karandlaje faced charges for linking the suspect in the Rameshwaram cafe blast with Tamil Nadu.
She apologised for her remark through an affidavit in the Madras High Court in September this year.
