FIR against Rahul, Priyanka over alleged ‘assault on police’ during protest

New Delhi: Delhi Police has registered an FIR against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra over allegations of assaulting police personnel and obstructing them from carrying out official duties during Wednesday’s protest in the national capital. Several other Congress leaders and party workers who participated in the demonstration have also been named, police sources said on Thursday.
Police said 91 people, including several MPs and political leaders, were detained during the protest. Rahul Gandhi led INDIA bloc leaders in the demonstration demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar before being detained along with other MPs.
The protesters were stopped while travelling by bus towards Jantar Mantar for a planned sit-in following a lunch meeting on Janpath. Priyanka Gandhi and other women leaders sat on the road holding copies of the Constitution before police removed and detained them.
