Bhopal: A complaint has been filed by a member of the right-wing Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) against former chief minister Digvijaya Singh, over his social media post on X regarding the Jain pilgrimage site Kundalpur in Madhya Pradesh's Damoh district.

Some "alleged anti-social elements of Bajrang Dal" ransacked the Jain temple complex at Kundalpur (in Damoh) on August 26 night and kept a “Shiv Pindi” there", Singh, a Rajya Sabha member, wrote on his official X account on August 27.

He tagged the post to the Madhya Pradesh chief minister and Director General of Police. He, however, later deleted the post.

According to the police, Sambhu Vishwakarma, a member of VHP, accused the Rajya Sabha MP of sharing false information in his social media post. Singh should be arrested immediately for "disturbing communal harmony", he said.

“The user of the social media account (Digvijaya Singh) has been booked under Section 153-A, 177, 505 (2) of IPC. Our further investigation is underway and an action would be initiated as per law,” Damoh Superintendent of Police Sunil Tiwari told the media persons on Wednesday.

He said after a spot investigation of the Kundalpur Jain temple by the sub-divisional magistrate and sub-divisional officer of police, the news about the incident was found to be "without facts and misleading". No such incident had taken place, he added.

Kundalpur Trust Committee chairman Chandrakumar Bajaj also denied such an incident in the temple.

On Sunday, Digvijaya Singh posted a message on his social media account about a group of Bajrang Dal activists with Lord Shiva’s ‘pind’ demonstrating at Kundalpur, the Jain pilgrimage site. Singh has raised apprehension saying the investigation needs to be done to avoid any untoward incident at the famous Jain shrine.

“In Kundalpur, a famous Jain pilgrimage area of Damoh district, some workers of Bajrang Dal are sitting with 'pind' and creating ruckus, which the Chief Minister should take cognisance of. The situation can take a serious turn anytime,” Singh posted this message on his social media post on August 28.
