Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb is not unknown for his controversial remarks that often leaves the ruling BJP in defence. In a video, addressing the Tripura Civil Service (TCS) officers, he could be heard making another controversial statement on the judiciary.

While urging the TCS officers to be steadfast in doing good for people's cause, the Chief Minister said that since he is the tiger he could deal with the judicial impediments that come in their tracks. He made this statement referring to some officers' apprehensions on being caught for contempt of court as excuses from doing some works.

He said he could deal with contempt of court whenever it arises, reminding TCS officers that they are responsible to obey the government directions. "The court will give its judgment, but the police will implement that. The police are under my control. Police have several methods and I am witness to that end," he said.

He added that he has personal experiences with the police force that uses several methods to deal with such instances.

Biplab also asked why officers should fear court when he is at the helm of the police force. It is with the government elected by people the power is bestowed and the people aren't for the court.

Giving an example, Mr Deb said that despite repeated caution by the Chief Secretary on the ground of contempt of court, he decided to go for ad hoc promotion of government officials through the cabinet as this issue has been pending for a long in the Supreme Court.
