Mysuru: Four members of a family, including a 15-year-old boy, were found dead on Monday under suspicious circumstances at an apartment in the Vishvevaraishnagar locality of Mysuru city, Karnataka. The deceased have been identified as 45-year-old Chetan, a labour contractor, his wife 43-year-old Roopali, their son 15-year-old Kushal, and Chetan's mother, 62-year-old Priyamvadha.

Authorities suspect that Chetan first poisoned his family before hanging himself. Mysuru City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, who visited the scene, confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and the exact cause of the tragedy is yet to be determined. She reported that while Priyamvadha was found dead in one flat, Chetan, Roopali, and Kushal were found in another flat in the same apartment complex.

The police were alerted by Bharat, Chetan's brother residing in the United States, after Chetan called him around 4 a.m. and stated that he was planning to commit suicide with his family. Bharat immediately contacted Roopali’s parents, who rushed to the apartment, but by the time they arrived, the tragedy had already occurred. The police were notified at 6 a.m. and swiftly arrived at the scene.

Police sources revealed that Chetan had been facing financial troubles, possibly related to his work sending laborers to the Middle East, which might have driven him to take such an extreme step. A death note recovered from the flat confirmed the police's suspicion. In the note, Chetan expressed his regret for his actions, stated that no one else was responsible for the deaths, and requested that his family and friends not be harassed by authorities over the incident.

The Mysuru police are continuing their investigation into the case, with further details expected as the inquiry progresses.

This tragedy follows a similar incident in 2021 when five family members were found dead in Bengaluru, including a toddler who survived for five days amidst the bodies of her relatives.
