Bengaluru: Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Tuesday told media that measures will be initiated to stop the spread of fake news in the state.

Those who spread the fake news will be punished, the minster added, while calling fake news a serious to threat to the society, the News Minute reported.

‘If we don’t come up with a preventive mechanism, it may pose a threat to society’s well-being in the long run,’ G Parameshwara was quoted as saying.

In order to check the spread of fake news, the government may amend existing laws if required, he said.

In accordance with the advancement in technology, laws have to be replaced, he told the media.

‘There are cyber laws. But technology is changing rapidly and in the coming days, cyber laws might need to be replaced or abandoned depending on the pace of the advancement of technology,’ he said.

Responding to the Bitcoin scam, he said that the government will re-investigate the scam and expose those behind it.
