Ex-Pentagon Official calls Pak army chief Asim Munir ‘Osama Bin Laden in suit’

Washington: Former Pentagon official Michael Rubin said that Pakistan was behaving like a ‘rogue state’, alongside calling the country’ army chief Asim Munir ‘Osama Bin Laden in a suit’.

Osama bin Laden, notorious for the 9/11 terrorist attack in the US, was eventually found holed up near a military base in Pakistan and was killed in a stealthily US attack.

Michael Rubin compared Pakistan's de facto military ruler with Osama bin Laden, pointing out that Munir’s remarks were reminiscent of those made by the Islamic State.

Field Marshal Asim Munir , in the presence of US military officials at an event in Tampa, Florida triggered controversy recently saying that if Pakistan ‘goes down, it would take half the world down’ with it, suggesting a nuclear attack against India.

India quickly responded to Munir’s threat with the Foreign Ministry saying ‘Nuclear sabre-rattling is Pakistan's stock-in-trade’.

Meanwhile, the Ex-US Official told the news agency ANI that ‘Pakistan's threats on American soil are completely unacceptable’.

Pointing to Pakistan’s nuclear threat a cover for terrorist elements to ‘go rogue’ with nuclear weapons, he said that ‘Americans look at terrorism through the lens of grievance...They don't understand the ideological underpinnings of many terrorists. Asim Munir is Osama bin Laden in a suit’.

Expressing doubt about Pakistan fulfilling responsibilities as a state, he called upon international community to consider allowing Pakistan to undergo what he said a ‘managed decline’ and pointed to the possibility military intervention in future to secure Pakistan's nuclear arsenal.

‘It's coming near time when, in a future administration, other SEAL teams should enter Pakistan to secure its nuclear weapons because the alternative is simply too great to bear,’ he was quoted as saying.
