Election Commission allots ‘whistle’ symbol to Vijay’s TVK

Chennai: The Election Commission has allotted the ‘whistle’ symbol to actor-politician Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), a senior party leader said on Thursday.

Party leader C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar said the whistle was the party’s priority choice, selected by Vijay from a list of 10 symbols proposed to the Commission.

He told reporters that the people of Tamil Nadu aspire to see Vijay become Chief Minister and that the allotment of the symbol marks the first step towards that goal.

The symbol also has a cultural connect, as “Whistle Podu” (play the whistle) is one of Vijay’s hit songs from his 2024 film GOAT, which had references to his then planned political entry.
