Drugs-on-cruise case: NCB seeks 90 more days for filing charge sheet

Mumbai: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has sought a Mumbai sessions court for an extension of ninety more days to file the charge sheet in the Mumbai drug-on-cruise case. The agency was supposed to file the charge sheet on April 2 on the case in which actor Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan along with 19 others, was arrested, NDTV reported.

The SIT had informed on March 2 that it was too early to assert that there was no evidence against Aryan Khan in the drug case. The statement, given by the SIT chief, came after reports of zero evidence against the accused No.1 Aryan Khan came up.

After spending nearly a month in jail, Aryan Khan was received bail, and in December last year, the Bombay High Court relieved him of appearing before NCB every week.

But, the court ordered that he should appear before Delhi's Special Investigation Team whenever summoned. The NCB had found no drugs on him but claimed that his WhatsApp chats proved his involvement in drug deals, especially with foreign drug cartels.

The case later developed into a vast political controversy tarnishing the image of NCB. It faced severe accusations of malpractice. Social media backed Aryan Khan with support.

Also, as the investigation of the case went forward, officials, including NCB chief Sameer Wankhede got into a bribery controversy. One of the witnesses in the case flagged an extorsion bid of Rs 25 crore through an affidavit he filed. Some NCB officials and others, including Sameer Wankhede, allegedly sought the amount to lay off Aryan Khan.
