New Delhi: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) of India informed that they have successfully tested firing a medium-range surface-to-air missile defence system off coast Odisha, The Indian Express reported.

The organisation said that the MRSAM-Army missile system was flight tested from ITR Balasore in the state at 10:30 hours and intercepted a highspeed aerial target at long range, destroying the target in a direct hit.

January 20, 2022, had witnessed India testing the Brahmos Supersonic Cruise Missile from integrated Test Range (ITR) off the coast of Odisha in order to assess some new indigenous system patched to it. DRDO had informed then that the missile with increased indigenous content and improved performance was testfired at 10.30 am from Integrated Test Range in Chandipur off coast Odisha. The launch was a joint venture of Brahmos Aerospace in close coordination with DRDO teams. The test has successfully met all objectives, DRDO had said.

Meanwhile, The Hindu reported that DRDO had developed a corner-shot weapon system (CSWS) which is at an advanced stage to induct in Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Jammu and Kashmir Police. The weapon, designed by the Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) Pune, can pick targets located around corners as it could bend and capture video feed. With the ability, it could alert the soldiers about a surprise attack. The weapon is the best suit for urban, close-quarter conflict situations. The DRDO was behind the development of the weapon for a decade, and the prototype was introduced in March 2019.
