Jodhpur: Doctors in Rajasthan removed from a man's stomach more than 50 coins after he complained of stomach pain.

The procedure that lasted for two days went without a surgery at Mathuradas Mathur Hospital here.

The 40-year-old man complaining severe stomach pain was brought to the gastroenterology department by his family on Friday, India Today reported.

Endoscopy revealed a metallic lump in his stomach, which later turned out to be coins.

The coins were found in a region called fundus of the stomach—a dome-shaped section at the top of the stomach.

Doctors decided against surgery to pick them out one or two coins at a time through the man's oesophagus which is a challenging and time-consuming procedure though, according to Sunil Dadhich, a senior doctor in the gastro department.

The family told the doctors that the man was suffering from mental disorder and swallowed the coins. The man himself admitted to doing such things previously too.

Dr Dadhich said such cases are usually reported in children but this is the first time so many coins have been recovered from the stomach of an adult person.
